Kay Bojesen Monkey - Reproduction

The Kay Bojesen Monkey was born in 1951. Kay Bojesen wanted to design a hat rack for children and the idea behind the monkey was that its long arms would bring the pegs down to child height and its short legs would provide the pegs for hanging hats and scarves.

This Monkey has a large personality and holds a special appeal for both children and adults. The Monkey is the perfect gift for special occasions. For christenings, birthdays, school leavers and weddings. The Monkey is a classic and a dear friend for life – from being a popular toy in the playroom to a much-loved design icon in a future home.

  • 100% Handmade
  • Materials: Teak/Walnut
  • Head and limbs are attached with elastic bands and can move in all directions
  • The reproduction of the Kay Bojesen Monkey is as true to the original as possible

Story of Kay Bojesen

Kay Bojesen, born in Copenhagen in 1886, graduated as a silversmith in 1910 after completing his apprenticeship with silversmith Georg Jensen. 10 years later his son Otto was born. This sparked Kay Bojesen's imagination and fascination for children's toys. This was the beginning of a new era in his life where he started making wooden toys for Otto and found that he was able to bring wood to life. He became world-famous for creating wooden toys that had soul and an impish sense of humor. With more than 2000 pieces to his name, Kay Bojesen was one of Denmark's most prolific artisans in the 20th century. He is best known for his playful and cheerful monkeys, royal lifeguards, and other wooden toys.
